Tebas condemns Real Madrid's allegations of a "refereeing conspiracy"

Madrid – AFP – Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, Spain’s top football league, condemned Real Madrid’s allegations of a “continuous refereeing conspiracy” in the Spanish league, arguing that the capital club is exploiting the issue to “cover up” for the difficulties it faces on the pitch.

Tebas, who has been engaged in an open confrontation with the club and its president, Florentino Pérez, for several years, responded to a pro-Real Madrid article with a lengthy message rebutting the sharp criticism leveled by the “Merengues” manager, Portuguese José Mourinho, in the post-match press conference following the 1-2 defeat in the “Capital Derby” against Atlético Madrid in the seventh-round top-of-the-table clash.

Tebas wrote: “The official spokespeople and the official channel (Real Madrid TV) have already begun constructing the usual narrative: the ongoing conspiracy. No club has the right to refereeing tailored to its needs, and a refereeing error does not prove the existence of a conspiracy.”

He added: “Claiming that referees are being directed against Real Madrid means living in another galaxy. This narrative is used as a pretext to cover up other shortcomings that have been evident since the early matches of the season. It is easier to point to a conspiracy than to explain what is happening on the pitch.”
