- Suspension of medical license for a consultant ophthalmologist for one year due to proven medical error and professional misconduct

The Ministry of Health announced that it has taken the necessary legal measures regarding the professional errors and violations confirmed by monitoring, inspection activities, and technical committee reports in private hospitals, clinics, and health centers, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding patients’ rights and safety.

In this regard, the Ministry stated that the relevant technical committees concluded that professional violations were established against a consultant physician of internal medicine, in his capacity as license holder and medical director of private health facilities. Three separate penalties were issued against him, including a financial fine of 4,000 dinars and a three-month suspension from work, as well as a financial fine of 3,000 dinars.

The Ministry noted that the two financial fines were imposed in accordance with Item 3 of Paragraph 2 of Article 75 of Law No. 70 of 2020 concerning the practice of medicine and its auxiliary professions, patients’ rights, and health facilities.

It further clarified that in another case, a technical committee report confirmed a medical error and professional misconduct by a consultant ophthalmologist working at a private medical center. Consequently, his license to practice medicine was temporarily suspended for one year, in accordance with Item 4 of Paragraph 1 of Article 75 of the same law.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that it will continue to rigorously monitor both public and private health facilities and take legal action against anyone proven to have committed violations, with no leniency regarding patient safety, quality of healthcare, and adherence to professional standards.
