The representative of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, met with His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Mr. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
At the outset of the meeting, which took place on Sunday evening (Kuwait time), His Highness conveyed the Amir’s greetings to the Secretary-General.
During the meeting, His Highness the Crown Prince emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to active participation in the work of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, noting the precision of the current stage and the need for concerted efforts by the international community to de-escalate tensions at all levels.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General praised Kuwait’s historical and pioneering role in supporting the international organization, commending its persistent diplomatic efforts to enhance dialogue and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, its continuous support for humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected peoples, and its backing of the UN’s noble activities to maintain international peace and security.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments and situations on the regional and international fronts, particularly the efforts made to end tensions in the region, and exchanged views on ways to enhance joint cooperation to address growing global challenges.
In the same context, the representative of His Highness met with Dr. Khalil Al-Rahman, President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, conveying the Amir’s greetings at the outset of the meeting.
Several items on the agenda of the 81st session, along with key international issues, were also discussed.
The bilateral relations between Kuwait and the friendly Republic of Austria were discussed, along with ways to develop them to serve the interests of the two countries and their peoples, as well as the latest developments on the regional and international fronts.
Furthermore, the representative of His Highness received Mr. Alar Karis, President of the friendly Republic of Estonia, and his accompanying delegation, at the permanent mission of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York.
