"Research" memo to develop construction materials and infrastructure technologies
The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between the two parties in several research and applied fields, foremost among them being the study of the performance of concrete produced using granular aggregate, the exchange of scientific and technical expertise, and leveraging the institute’s research and technical capabilities along with the company’s applied experience. This aims to support the development of building materials that align with local conditions and needs.
This cooperation extends and builds upon the accumulated research experience of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) in the fields of construction and building materials, the development and evaluation of innovative materials, and the utilization of locally available materials and waste streams to develop alternative building materials. It also encompasses research aimed at enhancing the performance, durability, and sustainability of structures and infrastructure.
Dr. Faisal Al-Hamidan affirmed that the collaboration with Arabian Gulf Pearl Company reflects the institute’s orientation toward expanding partnerships with the private sector and making its expertise and research capabilities available to serve productive sectors, ultimately leading to solutions that can be tested, developed, and transferred from the laboratory to the application environment.
He stated that the construction and infrastructure sector is one of the fields in which the institute has accumulated research and applied expertise over the years, noting that the current phase requires building on this expertise through partnerships that enable the development and testing of research-based solutions, as well as studying their potential for application and utilization within the sector.
For his part, Khalifa Al-Ghanim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arabian Gulf Pearl Company, confirmed that the signing of the memorandum represents a step toward establishing practical cooperation between the company and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and leveraging the institute’s scientific and research capabilities to develop materials and solutions applicable in the construction sector. He described the institute as a national house of expertise with a long history in research and development and a deep understanding of local conditions and needs.
He added that the private sector requires partnerships of this kind, which combine scientific knowledge, practical experience, and an understanding of local conditions and needs, and allow for the study and testing of new materials’ performance on a scientific basis before their transition to industrial use. He pointed out that developing the national industry is not limited to increasing production, but also requires investing in knowledge, technology, and product improvement, making cooperation with national research institutions a vital pathway for developing the sector and enhancing its ability to benefit from new solutions and materials.
