Ahmed Al-Ood to "Al-Rai": "Two Songs in One Song"... Musical Fusion Creates Musical Surprises

Maestro Dr. Ahmed Al-Oud revealed details of the musical concert titled “Two Songs in One,” which will be hosted at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center’s Sheikh Jaber Al-Ali Concert Hall on October 28 next year. He noted that the event is produced and organized by Sync Productions, featuring artists Fahd Al-Salem, Jassem Bin Thani, Abdullah Tariq, and Khamis Al-Khamis, accompanied by the musical orchestra under his direction.
In a statement to Al-Rai, Al-Oud explained that the concert’s concept revolves around presenting two songs as one, by exploring areas of similarity between musical works in terms of lyrics, themes, and melodies, ultimately crafting a cohesive medley that maintains artistic harmony.
He added, “There are many songs that share similar themes and lyrics. When we take a segment from one song and combine it with a segment from another, we often find they blend beautifully, as if they were a single song. This is where the idea of ‘Two Songs in One’ originated, allowing us to present these works in a fresh spirit.”
He emphasized, “The experience is not merely about combining two songs; it demands great precision in selection. We look for convergence in poetic content, as well as harmony between melodies and rhythms, so that the fusion feels natural and convincing musically, enabling the listener to feel that the two pieces complement each other.”
Al-Oud pointed out that “the concert program includes a selection of some of the finest Kuwaiti, Gulf, and Arabic songs, from both past and present,” noting that “diversity in selection will be one of the most prominent elements of the evening.”
He continued, “We were keen to ensure diverse musical variations, with each segment offering a surprise to the audience. This type of concert gives us wide scope for experimentation, but at the same time imposes significant responsibility in selecting songs and handling their melodies and lyrics, so as to preserve their beauty while presenting them in a new format.”
Concluding his remarks, Al-Oud clarified that preparing the concert requires special attention to musical arrangement, stating, “Arrangement is a key element here, as we are dealing with songs that have their own distinct identities. Our goal is to create a sense of cohesion among them, allowing the audience to transition smoothly from one piece to another and discover musical and poetic connections they may not have noticed before.”
