Messi scores his 75th goal from a free kick

Miami – AFP – The hopes of Argentine star Lionel Messi and his team Inter Miami to overtake Nashville at the top of the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer (MLS) took a major blow after the defending champions drew 2-2 with visitors San Diego in Florida.

Inter Miami now trails Nashville by 11 points with eight matches remaining in the regular season (57 points to 46).

San Diego opened the scoring through Danish striker Anders Dreyer (12th minute), and Inter Miami equalized in the 24th minute when Messi scored from a free kick, marking his 101st goal for the club since joining MLS in 2023 from French side Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Barcelona star has now scored 75 goals from free kicks (50 with Barcelona, 12 with Argentina, 11 with Inter Miami, and 2 with Paris Saint-Germain), bringing his career total to 930 goals.
