Karik: We deserved to beat Fulham

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick believes his team deserved to beat hosts Fulham in the fifth round of the English Premier League, after escaping defeat and securing a late 1-1 draw.

Both goals were scored in the second half, with Fulham taking the lead through an own goal by United defender Argentine Lisandro Martínez (63'). The "Red Devils" equalizer was scored by Brazilian Matheus Cunha (89').

After the match, Carrick told Sky Sports: "I felt we should have won the game. We created enough chances to win. The goal we conceded was one of those things that happens sometimes."

He added: "The players might have thought it wasn't our night, but I really loved their reaction. We were very close to winning at the end. Of course, we came to win, but the way things unfolded and how we finished the game are positive aspects we can take away from this."

Asked why his team had failed to win three consecutive matches, Carrick replied: "I think it comes down to their goalkeeper first and foremost (German Bernd Leno). The saves he made. He probably made three brilliant saves."

When asked if his team's performance was negative, he responded: "I didn't see it that way. Did you see it that way? Football is a difficult game. We controlled long periods of the first half."

He continued: "We are playing in the English Premier League, and there will be periods when things don't go your way. I don't think anyone has complete dominance throughout the entire match in this league."
