Al-Houla: Strengthening constructive cooperation with the UNHCR in charitable and humanitarian work

On Monday, Dr. Umthil Al-Hawaili, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, met with Dr. Khalid Al-Khalifa, Advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in humanitarian and relief fields.

In a statement, the ministry noted that the coordination meeting discussed the importance of the role played by UNHCR in managing relations and coordinating humanitarian and relief partnerships with governments, relevant stakeholders, and private sector institutions in the Gulf countries, contributing to the support of refugees and those affected worldwide.

Both sides emphasized the importance of the recently issued legislation regulating charitable and humanitarian work, and its role in strengthening governance and transparency principles, establishing a clear institutional framework for regulating charitable activities, protecting donors' funds, ensuring they are directed to their intended purposes, and preventing the exploitation or misuse of charitable work.

On Monday, Al-Hawaili also met with Mohamed Abu El-Wafa, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Kuwait, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences between the two sister countries in social and humanitarian fields.

The Ministry of Social Affairs clarified in a statement that the meeting addressed areas of cooperation in protecting women and children, and regulating charitable and humanitarian work, reflecting the strength of relations between the two sister countries and supporting pathways for joint action.

According to the statement, both sides affirmed the depth of the historical and fraternal ties between the State of Kuwait and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various fields.
