Facebook and Instagram resume operations after temporary outage in the United States

The outage-tracking website Downdetector reported that Meta’s social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, have returned to normal operation following a brief outage that disrupted service for thousands of users in the United States on Sunday.

The site, which monitors outages by aggregating status reports from multiple sources, indicated that the disruption began at approximately 8:55 p.m. Eastern Time and peaked with more than 17,000 reports of service interruptions on Facebook and over 5,000 reports related to Instagram.

Outage reports dropped sharply by around 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, suggesting that services had largely been restored. Since the figures on Downdetector are based on user-submitted reports, the actual number of affected users may differ.
