Atletico defeats Real Madrid, inflicting their second defeat of the season

Atlético Madrid secured a derby victory over their neighbors Real Madrid, who were reduced to ten men, by defeating them 2-1 on Sunday at the Metropolitano Stadium in the capital in the seventh round of the Spanish La Liga.

Alejandro Grimaldo (53rd minute, penalty) and Canadian Jonathan David (59th minute) scored for Atlético Madrid, while German Antonio Rüdiger (89th minute) scored for Real Madrid, who played with ten men from the 52nd minute after the red card shown to their international defender Dani Huisman.

It is the second defeat for the "Royal Club" this season, following their earlier 0-1 loss to visiting Real Betis, dropping them to third place, one point behind Atlético Madrid, who temporarily climbed to second place.

The turning point in the match was the red card shown to defender Dani Huisman for causing a penalty after pulling the shirt of Atlético Madrid manager Giuliano Simeone’s son, Julian Simeone. Grimaldo successfully converted the penalty (53rd minute).

However, David extended Atlético Madrid’s lead with the second goal following a pass from Simeone (59th minute).

Rüdiger narrowed the gap with a header one minute before the end of regular time, following a free kick taken by Portuguese international Bernardo Silva, who had come on as a substitute for English international Jude Bellingham.

It is the second victory for Getafe this season, bringing their total to eight points and moving them up to ninth place, while Málaga, who have three points from three draws, remain at the bottom of the table.
