Environment Protection Authority Launches 17th Season of the "Green Schools" Program
The Kuwait Environmental Protection Association launched the 17th edition of its awareness and educational program, “Green Schools,” in its new format, coinciding with the start of the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year. The initiative features a series of programs, activities, and interactive lectures that complement the school curriculum and address emerging local and global environmental issues.
Jinan Bahzad, the Association’s Secretary General and Director of Programs and Activities, stated in a statement issued on Saturday that the 17th edition of the program aims to enhance students’ environmental awareness and instill concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility within the school environment.
Bahzad added that this year’s program features updated content that aligns with environmental observances and days celebrated during the first semester, as well as topics related to the autumn season in the country. This approach enables students to connect scientific knowledge with the environmental issues surrounding them and transform theoretical concepts into daily practices and behaviors.
She explained that the program includes awareness activities in October, coinciding with Greening Day, highlighting the importance of expanding green spaces, protecting plants, and their role in improving the environment and quality of life. It also covers topics on biodiversity, seasonal changes, and the importance of conserving natural resources.
Bahzad noted that in November, the program aligns with the International Day for Preventing the Use of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. It provides simplified content tailored to different age groups, explaining the importance of protecting ecosystems and natural resources from the impacts of conflicts and wars, and reinforcing among students the environmental concept that protecting the environment is a shared humanitarian responsibility.
Bahzad further stated that the program also coincides with the growing global momentum to address climate change challenges, in line with the convening of the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
She indicated that the program includes awareness activities to educate students about climate change issues, their impacts, and the importance of adaptation and mitigation. It also simplifies key global climate issues and links them to the environmental reality in Kuwait, thereby enhancing students’ awareness of their role in supporting sustainable practices and climate action.
