Mohammed Nasser Al-Sayer & Sons and “Toyota” have launched the all-new “Land Cruiser FJ,” a prominent new member of the legendary Land Cruiser family. The model is designed to make the Land Cruiser’s trusted capabilities and adventurous spirit accessible to a broader segment of customers.
The official launch event at Grand Avenue in The Avenues Mall was an exceptional occasion attended by hundreds of visitors, including prominent Kuwaiti social media influencers, Bengt Schultz, Chief Operating Officer; Martin Aherne, Senior Managing Director of the “Toyota” Group; Ian Tottie, General Manager of “Toyota” Retail; and Badr Faisal Al-Sayer, Senior Marketing Manager at “Toyota,” along with a team from Al-Sayer’s senior management.
The “Land Cruiser FJ” joins the “Land Cruiser 300,” “Land Cruiser 70,” and “Land Cruiser Prado,” developed under the concept of “Freedom and Fun.” It combines the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that have defined the “Land Cruiser” across generations with a more compact and easier-to-handle size. This provides customers with diverse lifestyles greater freedom of movement and a wider range of unforgettable experiences.
Since the introduction of the original “Toyota BJ” model in 1951, the “Land Cruiser” has continued to evolve through real-world use in some of the most demanding environments around the world. Its mission has remained unchanged: helping people go wherever they wish and return safely. With cumulative sales of approximately 12.4 million vehicles in more than 190 countries and regions worldwide, the “Land Cruiser” has supported people’s lives and livelihoods everywhere. It has been developed and refined in response to customer experiences globally, cementing its long-standing reputation by providing reliable transportation wherever it is most needed.
The “Land Cruiser FJ” embodies this established philosophy in a new and distinctive form. Its arrival expands the “Land Cruiser” lineup with a model that retains the core attributes of the “Land Cruiser” name while offering excellent agility, practical dimensions, and a fun, appealing character. Guided by Toyota’s “TO YOU” concept, the “Land Cruiser” will continue to evolve in response to changing customer and societal needs, remaining a vehicle worthy of people’s trust.
On the occasion of the “Land Cruiser FJ” launch, Masaya Ochiama, Chief Engineer for the “Land Cruiser” at Toyota Motor Corporation, stated: “Our goal was to develop a vehicle that remains trusted in supporting the lives of a diverse range of customers, by returning to the original ‘FJ40 CORE’ concept and inspiring people to enjoy life more. The (Land Cruiser FJ) represents the essence of the (Land Cruiser); it provides freedom and fun for a wide and diverse range of lifestyles.”
Ochiama added: “By providing drivers with the robust off-road performance befitting the Land Cruiser, this model offers customers the freedom to go wherever they wish, regardless of their lifestyle, while also delivering the joy of using the vehicle in their own way. As customer needs become increasingly diverse and evolve at a faster pace, we believe that simply adding more features and functions is no longer sufficient. By focusing on a simple design accessible to a broader audience, the vehicle becomes a canvas through which customers can express themselves.”
The Land Cruiser FJ will be available in two grades: Mid and High. The availability of these two grades allows customers to choose a vehicle that suits their individual preferences and intended use, while maintaining the core reliability, durability, and off-road performance common to all grades.
The Land Cruiser FJ features a shortened wheelbase, with additional crossmembers added beneath the floor to increase the chassis’s torsional rigidity. High-tensile steel, combining strength and light weight, is used in the body structure, while additional spot welding beneath the floor helps improve vibration damping. This combination enhances ride comfort without compromising the stability and structural strength expected of a Land Cruiser.
With a wheelbase of 2,580 mm, the Land Cruiser FJ is 270 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser Prado. This reduced length achieves a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters, facilitating maneuvering in urban environments, narrow trails, and more complex off-road terrain. Despite its compact dimensions, the vehicle retains the fundamental engineering and mobility capabilities necessary to deliver genuine off-road performance. Ground clearance and approach and departure angles are designed to support confident progress over difficult surfaces, while wheel travel equivalent to that of the Land Cruiser 70 series helps keep the tires in contact with the ground over uneven terrain.
The vehicle’s power comes from a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing a maximum output of 120 kW (163 PS) and a maximum torque of 246 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system.
The suspension system was developed to balance off-road capability with comfort and stability on paved roads. The front suspension employs a high-rigidity double wishbone system, while the rear uses a four-link solid axle with a panhard bar. Together, these systems provide reliable wheel control and balanced vehicle behavior across various driving environments, from paved roads to challenging off-road trails.
A suite of driving and braking control systems provides additional support to drivers in difficult off-road conditions. The downhill assist control helps maintain a steady descent on steep slopes without wheel lockup, allowing the driver to focus on steering. The hill-start assist system helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline, while the electric rear differential lock enhances traction by helping the rear wheels rotate together when additional grip is needed. These systems work together to support steady, controlled progress over uneven, loose, or steep terrain.
The exterior and interior designs of the Land Cruiser FJ have been developed to combine the functional heritage of the Land Cruiser with a playful, contemporary character. The design retains the boxy cabin shape traditionally adopted to prioritize passenger space, visibility, and cargo capacity, while presenting a sleek, integrated form featuring a distinctive dice-inspired pattern and carefully chamfered edges.
The vehicle body measures 4,575 mm in length and 1,855 mm in width, giving it compact dimensions. The rectangular shape and distinct angles enhance confidence when maneuvering in tight spaces or positioning the vehicle on uneven terrain. At the front and rear, robust bumpers and prominent wheel arch fenders impart a grounded, stable appearance. These elements are integrated into a clean, tightly sculpted body, maintaining a strong visual presence without unnecessary complexity.
Safety and driver confidence remain core priorities. The Land Cruiser FJ in the High grade is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense active safety package, which includes advanced systems such as the Pre-Collision Safety System and Lane Departure Alert. The Pre-Collision Safety System is designed to help the driver detect potential hazards and can assist in avoiding a collision or mitigating its severity. The Lane Departure Alert helps detect unintentional lane deviations and alerts the driver, supporting safer and more focused driving.
Additional safety and comfort technologies in the High grade include the Panoramic View Monitor and Blind Spot Monitor. The Panoramic View Monitor provides the driver with additional visibility around the vehicle, supporting confident maneuvering in tight spaces and parking situations where direct line-of-sight may be limited.
The Blind Spot Monitor helps alert the driver to vehicles traveling in areas that may be difficult to see through the mirrors. Together with Toyota Safety Sense, these technologies contribute to a more reassuring driving experience in urban areas, on highways, and on rough roads.
The Land Cruiser FJ features distinctive U-shaped front and rear combination lamps, giving it an instantly recognizable identity. At the front, key functional elements are visually integrated to create a sharp, purposeful appearance, while the side profile includes a low-positioned horizontal beltline to improve visibility of the surrounding road surface.
The Land Cruiser FJ is available in five solid exterior colors: Pearl White, Gray, Black, Bronze, and Smoky Blue. Each color was selected to complement the simple, practical, and adventurous design character of the Land Cruiser FJ. The Mid grade comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the High grade features larger 18-inch wheels.
Both the Mid and High grades are equipped with an audio system featuring a 12.3-inch display, providing a clear and user-friendly interface for key multimedia functions. The large screen is integrated into the practical design of the driver’s cabin, supporting intuitive operation without compromising visibility or the practical functions that are fundamental to the Land Cruiser FJ.
