First-ever orthodontic treatment for a panda in China

A male giant panda named Beixia, born in 2022, sustained a jaw injury shortly after birth. Experts feared he would struggle to chew bamboo, posing a serious threat to his life.

Xinhua reported: "Specialists successfully corrected the mandibular asymmetry in the giant panda using orthodontic techniques adapted from human dental practices."

It added that this was "the first such procedure performed on this rare species."
