Education Ministry Boosts Readiness for Participation in the PIRLS 2026 Study

The Ministry of Education continues its preparations to participate in the international PIRLS 2026 study, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and improve learning outcomes, and to strengthen Kuwait’s presence in international educational assessments and studies. This initiative aims to measure and develop learners’ reading skills in accordance with global educational standards and indicators.

In this context, the Ministry’s Department of Measurement and Evaluation organized an informational meeting for the principals of participating foreign schools, English language teachers, and educational staff practitioners. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Department of Development and Training in the Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Health City area (Jabriya). The Ministry explained that the meeting is part of the preparations and arrangements for implementing the international PIRLS 2026 study, which measures progress in reading skills and is overseen by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). The goal is to assess learners’ performance in reading skills and utilize the study’s results to support efforts to improve the educational process, in line with the best international standards and practices.

Additionally, the Department of Measurement and Evaluation announced the organization of an intensive training course targeting school coordinators and test administrators, scheduled to take place from September 22 to 24 at the headquarters of the Department of Development and Training in the Jabriya area. The Department stated that the training course aims to enhance the efficiency of the working teams and prepare them to implement the study’s requirements optimally, through training on the procedures and instructions outlined in the approved guidelines. This will strengthen the readiness of the participating staff and ensure the study is conducted in accordance with the approved international standards and regulations.
