Bank of England Keeps Interest Rates at 3.75 Percent

Bloomberg – The Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged at 3.75 percent, the level at which they have remained since December 2025, as the economy faces repercussions from events in the Middle East.

Most policymakers at the Bank of England currently believe that the current interest rate level is sufficient to curb price pressures. The Bank of England is attempting to strike a balance between curbing inflation and supporting growth amid rising unemployment and weak gross domestic product.

However, maintaining this stance has become more difficult, as oil and gas costs have already exceeded the levels specified in the adverse scenario outlined by the central bank in late July, while economists warn that inflation could reach 4 percent in early next year.

UK inflation rose in August for the second consecutive month, driven by a jump in car fuel prices, reaching 3.1 percent, surpassing the Bank of England’s forecast of 2.8 percent and marking the highest level since March, up from 2.9 percent in July, according to the Office for National Statistics, in line with economists’ average expectations.

Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey told members of the parliamentary Treasury Committee that inflation risks tend to rise as the conflict in the Middle East continues.
