Kuwait's holdings of U.S. bonds reach $69.23 billion, up by $41 million

Kuwait continued to increase its holdings of US Treasury securities at the end of last July to a new record level, with an annual increase estimated at $11.11 billion, or 19.12%, reaching $69.23 billion, compared to $58.12 billion at the end of July 2026.
The monthly report issued by the US Treasury Department indicated that Kuwait’s holdings of Treasury securities grew by 0.6% compared to their level in June, which stood at $68.82 billion, representing a monthly increase of $41 million. Since the beginning of 2026, holdings have risen by approximately 4.81%, or $3.18 billion, compared to their level at the end of 2025, which was $66.05 billion.
The report noted that long-term securities continued to account for the largest share of Kuwait’s investments, valued at $66.92 billion, while short-term securities amounted to approximately $2.31 billion.
Saudi Arabia maintained its position at the top of the Arab list and 17th globally among the largest investors in US Treasury securities at the end of July 2026. Japan led the list with investments totaling $1.1039 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom with $998.3 billion, and then China with $618 billion.
At the end of last July, Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US securities increased by 8.2% on an annual basis, rising by $10.8 billion compared to the same month last year, reaching $142.4 billion, compared to $131.6 billion. On a monthly basis, however, holdings declined by $100 million, equivalent to 0.07%, compared to $142.5 billion.
Holdings by the Kingdom reached $140.3 billion in May last year and $140.1 billion at the end of April, compared to $152 billion in March. Notably, holdings surged in February last year to $160.4 billion, marking the highest level in 72 months (6 years), since it recorded its historical peak of $184.4 billion in February 2020.
The UAE ranked second among Arab countries and 19th globally among the largest investors in US Treasury securities at the end of last July, after recording total holdings of $110.139 billion.
On an annual basis, the UAE increased its holdings by 2.27% compared to the level of $107.696 billion in July 2025, recording a total increase of $2.443 billion. Conversely, holdings experienced a monthly decline of 4.08% compared to $114.823 billion in June last year, registering a decrease of $4.684 billion.
The UAE continued to strengthen its holdings of US securities since the beginning of 2026, with an increase of 15.14% compared to the level of $95.656 billion in December 2025, and a total increase of $14.483 billion over seven months. Issuances reached $9.2481 trillion at the end of last July, compared to $9.1095 trillion at the end of the same month in 2025, representing an increase of 1.52%, while they stood at $9.2985 trillion in June last year.
Overall, total foreign investments in US securities amounted to approximately $9.25 trillion, representing a 1.54% increase compared to $9.11 trillion at the end of the corresponding month in 2025, while declining by 0.54% on a monthly basis.
