Fahmi: Any understandings with Iran should take into account the security and concerns of Arab countries

During a meeting with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel in Cairo on Thursday, Fahmy emphasized the importance of halting escalation, respecting the sovereignty and security of Arab states, and ensuring freedom of international navigation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, given the direct implications for regional security, trade, supply chains, energy, and the global economy.

He expressed the Arab League’s appreciation for Portugal’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause, particularly its decision to recognize the State of Palestine, affirming that this step places Portugal among European countries that adopt just positions on the issue.

He praised Portugal’s rejection of settlement expansion, especially the E1 project, which isolates East Jerusalem and contradicts the two-state solution, stressing the need to translate these positions into collective European actions against settlements and settler violence.

He also underscored the priority of halting Israeli attacks, opening border crossings, expanding aid, and supporting UNRWA, while stressing the necessity of stopping Israeli actions that violate the sovereignty of Lebanon and Syria and their territories.
