Trump threatens to reduce trade with the European Union over partnership plan with Canada

US President Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to scale back trade with the European Union if it proceeds with a proposal to grant Canada the status of the bloc’s first “partner country.”

Trump told reporters, commenting on the plan unveiled by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, that it was “ridiculous,” adding, “If they go ahead, and if I see any hostile action, I will impose very strict tariffs or stop trade with Europe.”
