Makkah... Oh, Islam

- Saudi Arabia intercepts and destroys a drone before it enters the restricted airspace of the Holy Capital

- A repetition of the terrorist Houthi militia’s practices and a provocation of the sentiments of Muslims worldwide

- Kuwait: Unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia… the Kingdom’s security is inseparable from the security of Kuwait and the Gulf states

The terrorist Houthi aggression against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the attempt to target the Holy City of Mecca with a drone sparked widespread Arab and Islamic outrage, amid broad solidarity with the Kingdom and affirmation of support for all legitimate measures it takes to protect the Two Holy Mosques, the guests of the House of God, its territory, its citizens, and its residents.

The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces thwarted a new Houthi attempt to target Mecca on Tuesday evening, after intercepting and destroying a drone before it entered the restricted airspace of the Holy Capital. The aggression triggered widespread condemnation from the Gulf, Arab, and Islamic worlds.

The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition announced that the drone was launched by the Houthi militia and was intercepted south of the city of Mecca. Coalition Forces spokesperson, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, confirmed that this hostile and terrorist attempt is the second targeting of Mecca, following the attempted launch of a ballistic missile on July 27, 2017.

Al-Maliki described the aggression as a despicable act and an attempt to target the site of divine revelation, the land of the message, and the destination of the hearts of millions of Muslims from various countries, as well as to terrorize the safe guests of the Holy House of God and harm citizens and residents. He emphasized that the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the guests of the House of God is a red line, and affirmed that the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will not hesitate to take necessary and deterrent measures against the Houthi militia and its hostile and terrorist behavior.

The Kingdom commended the vigilance of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, which responded to the aggression and succeeded in intercepting and destroying the drone before it entered the restricted airspace of the Holy Capital, Mecca.

Kuwait expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the attempt to target Mecca, affirming that this cowardly and despicable act constitutes a violation of the sanctity of the Muslims’ qibla, a disregard for its religious status, and an affront to the sentiments of Muslims.

The Council of Ministers affirmed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and security, protect the Two Holy Mosques, and preserve their sanctity. It stressed that the security of the Kingdom is an inseparable part of the security of the State of Kuwait and the security of the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
