Burgan highlights its technological leadership at IDC Kuwait 2026

Burgan Bank participated in the 2026 IDC Kuwait CIO Summit, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Kuwait’s evolving technology landscape and fostering constructive dialogue on the opportunities and challenges shaping the next phase of digital transformation.
Under the theme “Growth of AI Agent-Based Systems,” the summit brought together a select group of CIOs, technology executives, and decision-makers to explore and discuss the growing role of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data infrastructure in enabling organizations to operate with greater intelligence, autonomy, and resilience.
Representing Burgan Bank at the summit was Barak Al-Matar, General Manager of the Information Systems Department. He participated in the “For The CIO – By The CIO” track, contributing to a panel discussion titled “Agentic AI: Real-World Experiences and Early Successes.” Alongside a distinguished group of peers from the industry, Al-Matar discussed practical applications of agentic AI, exchanged perspectives on emerging use cases and deployment priorities, and addressed the considerations organizations must weigh as AI transitions from experimentation to enterprise-wide adoption.
During the summit, Al-Matar was selected as a winner of the IDC CIO Excellence Awards 2026. The awards recognized 30 technology leaders who are redefining IT leadership and driving digital innovation, based on a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process conducted by an independent panel of IDC analysts.
During his participation, Al-Matar emphasized that harnessing the potential of emerging technologies requires organizations to strike a balance between innovation and robust governance, cybersecurity, and responsible deployment. Specifically regarding the financial sector, he underscored the importance of advancing robust security frameworks in parallel with digital evolution, while also enhancing customer awareness to keep pace with the increasing complexity of the digital ecosystem.
Commenting on his participation, Al-Matar stated: “AI tools represent a significant advancement in how technology is leveraged to support organizations, but their true value ultimately depends on how responsibly and effectively they are used. In the banking sector, innovation cannot be separated from security, governance, and trust. As technologies continue to evolve, our responsibility extends beyond securing the systems that protect our customers; it also includes equipping them with the awareness needed to operate safely and confidently in an increasingly digital financial environment.”
This approach is a continuation of Burgan Bank’s ongoing investments in strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities and adopting advanced technologies within established frameworks of governance and regulatory compliance. The bank continues to leverage the latest technologies to enhance its cybersecurity infrastructure, adhering to international standards and the requirements of the Central Bank of Kuwait, grounded in its consistent approach to deploying advanced AI capabilities within rigorous governance frameworks.
Recognizing that technology alone is insufficient to address evolving digital risks, Burgan Bank continues to prioritize customer awareness and education. This includes its ongoing support for the “Let’s Be Aware” financial literacy campaign.
Al-Burcan’s participation in the summit reflects its comprehensive approach to digital transformation, which is grounded in adopting technologies that enhance the banking experience while ensuring that this progress is underpinned by resilience, responsible governance, strengthened cybersecurity, and customer trust. By continuing to invest in its technological capabilities and engaging in sector-wide specialized dialogues, the bank remains focused on delivering a banking experience that is more modern, secure, and future-ready.
