Kewo: Eventful matches pose unavoidable risks

Turin – AFP – Inter Milan staged another home “remontada” after overturning a two-goal deficit against Udinese to win 5-3 in a thrilling match that concluded the fourth round of the Italian Serie A. The victory kept them level on points with league leaders Roma, who defeated hosts Torino 2-0, ahead of their highly anticipated clash next Saturday.

Roma, who have not started a Serie A season with four consecutive wins since 2014, moved to 12 points in first place, edging out runners-up Inter, the defending champions, on goal difference.

In the previous round, Inter had come from two goals down against visitors Napoli to secure a late 3-2 victory, thanks to two goals from Argentine captain Lautaro Martinez. They repeated the same scenario this time against visitors Udinese, albeit without Martinez on the pitch.

Near the end of the match, Senegalese striker Idrissa Gueye pulled one back for the visitors (90+1), leaving Udinese with a shaky start to the season and their points tally frozen at four, placing them 13th.

After the match, Inter’s Romanian coach, Cristian Chivu, acknowledged that eventful, open games are an inherent risk in modern Serie A football, stating: “I have never seen a perfect team.”

He added in an interview with Sky Sport Italia: “These are our characteristics, and what we do well. We can score a lot of goals and maintain a high level. So, apart from the first 25 minutes, when we tried to do certain things without the right energy and Udinese capitalized on our situation, we managed to come back into the game and produce a good reaction.”

In Turin, Roma secured a valuable victory, largely thanks to the outstanding Dutch striker Donyell Malen, who opened the scoring (40), bringing his season tally to six goals, before Nicolò Pisilli added a late insurance goal (90+3).

Meanwhile, Torino’s points total remained at three, leaving them in 14th place.
