Qatar: The world suffers from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz; adding the Bab el-Mandeb to the equation is untenable

Qatar has confirmed that it is working diligently, in coordination with its regional and international partners, to advance dialogue and reach a consensus on navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The State of Qatar stated that disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab would have catastrophic repercussions for the region and the world, given the vital importance of these waterways to international trade flows and energy security.

Ibrahim Al-Hajiri, Director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press briefing, “The world is already suffering from a closure of the Strait of Hormuz; we cannot afford to add Bab al-Mandab to this equation.”
