Regulating the Use and Application of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Emblems

Article 3 of the resolution stipulates that the emblem shall be used to provide protection or prevention during international and non-international armed conflicts and war, and to indicate, during peacetime, that a person or an object is linked to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is legally authorized to use it, or to distinguish, during peacetime, medical units, medical transport vehicles, their locations, equipment, supplies, and personnel.

Article 4 sets out the rules for the use of the emblem, requiring it to be prominently displayed on the surfaces of medical units and facilities, and medical transport vehicles, and to be as visible and large as possible on a white background, without any text or information adjacent to it. It must be illuminated when visibility is reduced, and made of materials that ensure it can be identified by technical detection means. The crescent must not touch the edges of the flag or the arm badge, and it must be placed in appropriate positions on vehicles to enable their identification and recognition by aircraft.
