Qarqash speaks on “deterrence and diplomacy” after meeting with Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and Buzeshkian

Anwar Gargash, the UAE president’s diplomatic advisor, stated that the meeting between Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit embodies the UAE’s approach based on “deterrence and diplomacy.”
Writing on the X platform, he noted that “the meeting between Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, as part of His Highness’s meetings with participating leaders, reflects the UAE’s approach, which rests on the twin pillars of deterrence and diplomacy, as neither can function without the other. Deterrence enhances the credibility of diplomacy, while diplomacy succeeds when it proceeds from a position of parity and strength, ultimately forming the optimal path toward achieving a stable and sustainable regional security.”
He added, “It is also worth noting that President Pezeshkian expressed positions and statements during the protracted crisis that were characterized by calmness and rationality, which cannot be ignored at this delicate stage.”
