Sisi to Bushrakian: Cease any attacks on Arab states to uphold the principles of good neighborliness
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New Delhi on Sunday, affirmed “Egypt’s firm and steadfast position in supporting efforts to restore stability in the region.”
He emphasized “Egypt’s aspiration for Iran to make every possible effort to halt escalation and reach a comprehensive and sustainable peaceful settlement of the crisis, thereby safeguarding the sovereignty of the region’s countries and protecting the resources of their peoples,” while stressing “the inevitability of halting any aggression against Arab states, in order to uphold the principles of good neighborliness and strengthen the historical and cultural ties that bind the peoples of the region.”
In a separate meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, el-Sisi discussed “ways to develop relations and build on the growing momentum witnessed since elevating them to the level of a strategic partnership in 2023.”
The two sides exchanged “views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, foremost among which is the Palestinian issue,” where el-Sisi reaffirmed the constants of Egypt’s position regarding the necessity of resolving crises through peaceful means, negotiation, prioritizing diplomatic solutions, respecting international law and the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, as well as halting escalation and the use of force.
During an open session at the summit held under the theme “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability: Shaping the Future of Inclusive Global Growth,” el-Sisi stated that “the rapid transformations and challenges facing the global economy underscore the importance of building more resilient economies through diversifying growth sources, strengthening supply chains, investing in human capital and technology, and expanding the horizons of cooperation among Global South countries.”
He considered that “from this perspective, Egypt attaches great importance to enhancing cooperation in the fields of innovation and artificial intelligence, technology transfer, and localization, thereby enabling our countries to benefit more from technological transformations and strengthening the role of youth in the future economy.”
El-Sisi added that “sustainability gains particular importance in light of challenges related to energy, food, and water security, as well as climate change. From this standpoint, Egypt believes in the importance of expanding cooperation in the fields of clean and renewable energy, improving resource efficiency, and facilitating developing countries’ access to the financing and technology necessary for transitioning toward more sustainable economies.”
He continued, “Egypt also attaches special importance to the sustainability of infrastructure, transport networks, and logistics, which enhances trade efficiency, supports the green transition in maritime transport, and strengthens regional connectivity. The Suez Canal lies at the heart of this system, as one of the most important corridors for international trade, placing on Egypt a role in supporting supply chain stability and enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of global trade movements.”
The Egyptian president pointed out that “economic resilience is inseparable from our ability to ensure food and energy security, maintain smooth trade and investment flows, and manage supply chain disruptions. Therefore, we see the importance of continuing efforts to increase trade and investment among BRICS countries and their partners, encouraging joint projects that enhance economic interconnectivity and reduce the impact of external shocks. The success of our partnership does not depend solely on agreeing on priorities, but requires translating them into concrete projects, investments, and partnerships.”
He added, “Egypt reaffirms its readiness to continue working with BRICS member states and partners, leveraging their potential and strategic position to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and food. BRICS, through the diversity of its members and partners, holds a genuine opportunity to build a practical model of cooperation among Global South countries, grounded in resilience, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, and to translate these principles into concrete programs and projects that benefit all our peoples.”
On the sidelines of the closing of the BRICS summit, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar exchanged views on regional developments amid the rapid changes unfolding in the region.
