Princess Diana’s “Revenge Dress” to be auctioned again

Sotheby’s plans to auction off Princess Diana’s “Revenge Dress” in New York next December. The dress was worn by the late princess hours after Prince Charles then confessed to his marital infidelity.

Diana wore the daring, off-the-shoulder gown to a dinner party in London in 1994, on the same day her husband, who is now the King of the United Kingdom, admitted to his affair during a television interview.

Morgan Halimi of Sotheby’s, which announced the anticipated sale on Thursday, said, “Princess Diana turned the dress into one of the most powerful messages she ever sent, at a stage in her life that was under the most intense scrutiny and emotional strain.”

The dress, designed by Greek designer Christina Stambolian, is expected to fetch between $150,000 and $300,000, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to charity.

The dress was previously auctioned for cancer and AIDS charities in 1997, shortly before Diana died in a car crash in Paris at the age of 36.
