Al-Khwari: Implementing Sphere standards reinforces professionalism in humanitarian work

Dr. Fawzi Al-Khowari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Association for Crisis and Emergency Management, emphasized the importance of relying on recognized international standards in the governance of humanitarian relief work, noting that the implementation of the “Sphere Standard” serves as a fundamental pillar for enhancing the efficiency and capabilities of volunteer teams and humanitarian institutions during disaster and crisis response.
This statement came during the delivery of a specialized training course and workshop on the “Sphere Handbook for the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response,” conducted in collaboration and community partnership with the Al-Rahma Global Relief Association, which operates numerous humanitarian relief projects worldwide and strives to achieve global governance in the implementation and management of these projects.
Dr. Al-Khowari clarified that the standards outlined in the “Sphere” handbook are not merely performance guidelines, but constitute an ethical and practical framework that ensures relief assistance is delivered based on the highest standards of quality and governance, while fully preserving the dignity and rights of those affected by disasters and crises. He added that empowering volunteer and field teams to use “Sphere” standards contributes to transitioning humanitarian initiatives from individual efforts to structured institutional work aligned with global best practices.
Al-Khowari also stressed the Kuwait Association for Crisis and Emergency Management’s commitment to building strategic and fruitful partnerships with various local and international relief and volunteer associations, noting that cooperation with Al-Rahma Global Relief Association is part of an effort to unify efforts, integrate expertise, and enhance capacities to strengthen the readiness and excellence of the volunteer and humanitarian work system in the State of Kuwait.
He concluded his remarks by thanking Al-Rahma Global Relief Association for its invitation and its commitment to governing Kuwaiti relief work according to international standards, affirming that the Association continues to offer training programs and specialized workshops.
