Mohamed bin Zayed and Meretz Witness Launch of Strategic Dialogue
- Emphasized the importance of working to strengthen the foundations of peace and stability in the region

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz witnessed the signing of several agreements, memoranda of understanding, and letters of intent for cooperation in Berlin on Thursday, aiming to continue strengthening the long-term partnership and expand their cooperation into broader horizons within the framework of their strategic partnership, particularly in economic, developmental, advanced technology, and energy sectors.
In this context, the UAE announced its intention to invest €40 billion in Germany across several sectors representing developmental and strategic priorities, including industry, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and advanced digital infrastructure, including the development of new, state-of-the-art data centers, as well as energy and other vital areas of mutual interest.
The initiatives also include a letter of intent exploring a framework for cooperation in defense and security, a joint declaration of intent to continue expanding cooperation in the energy sector, a joint letter of intent regarding investment in data centers in Germany, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in combating crime in all its forms, an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the environmental field.
The UAE President and the German Chancellor discussed “various avenues of cooperation and joint efforts, and ways to enhance them, particularly in the fields of economy, energy, renewable energy, innovation, technology, artificial intelligence, culture, and education, thereby strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.”
The official WAM News Agency reported that Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized that “the UAE views its relations with Germany as a long-term strategic partnership built on more than five decades of cooperation, trust, and shared interests.”
He pointed to the UN Water Conference 2026, which the UAE will host later this year, confirming that Germany will play an important role in the conference, and commending its role in supporting global water sustainability.
Both sides expressed their “aspiration to continue joint efforts to achieve further development in the trajectory of bilateral relations and build upon what has been achieved in previous years.”
They reviewed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them developments in the Middle East region, exchanging views on these matters.
They stressed that “cooperation is based on a shared vision rooted in their belief in the importance of contributing to building a safer and more stable future for future generations.”
Prior to that, Mohamed bin Zayed and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed “various avenues of cooperation and ways to develop them across all fields, particularly economic and developmental ones, which serve mutual interests and contribute to enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries” at the historic Villa Borsig.
Mohamed bin Zayed affirmed that “the UAE and Germany share a historical relationship of cooperation and friendship dating back to before the establishment of the state,” noting that “these relations have passed through key milestones over more than five decades, leading to the strategic partnership between the two countries, under a shared vision to continue enhancing their cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests and brings prosperity and growth to both peoples.”
He praised Steinmeier’s role in developing bilateral relations, and “commended the role of the German community in the UAE, which has contributed to building bridges of communication and rapprochement between the societies of the two countries, alongside the importance of the role of German companies in strengthening economic ties.”
The UAE President also met with Bundestag President Claudia Roth and a number of lawmakers, emphasizing “the shared human values that unite the two countries, reflected in their commitment to fostering coexistence and cultural and intellectual exchange between peoples and cultures.”
He stated that “the UAE has been keen since its founding to build bridges of communication and cooperation with countries around the world,” underscoring “the important role of parliaments in enhancing these values, thereby contributing to building a solid foundation for development, peace, and stability.”
He also visited the Central Memorial “Neue Wache” in Berlin, laying a wreath at the monument, which was erected in memory of the victims of wars.
The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining relations with all countries in a manner that serves the interests of peoples.
In a statement published by the official WAM News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that “in light of the decision by the sisterly People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to sever its relations with the UAE, the UAE reiterates its appreciation for its relations with all countries and its constant commitment to developing and strengthening them, in a manner that serves common interests and enhances understanding, cooperation, and prosperity.”
It added: “The UAE looks forward to this decision being temporary, so as to preserve the fraternal bonds between the two brotherly peoples.”
It continued: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reaffirms the UAE’s appreciation for the Algerian people and its pride in the ties that unite the two peoples, particularly the members of the Algerian community residing in the country and visitors, and its commitment to maintaining and strengthening these ties and shared interests.”
