25 dead in cargo ship fire in China

Xinhua - Twenty-five people were killed in a fire that broke out today aboard a foreign cargo ship undergoing maintenance at a shipyard in Qingdao, Shandong province, eastern China, local authorities announced.

Rescue workers were able to locate all 25 individuals initially reported missing, none of whom showed any signs of life.

The fire broke out at around 11:15 a.m. while the ship was undergoing maintenance at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, according to the Qingdao Fire and Rescue Department.

A total of 42 people were on board the ship. Twelve were safely evacuated, and five injured individuals were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The fire was extinguished at around 2:30 p.m.
