Launch of the fourth edition of the "Your School's Dream" plastic collection competition
Sanaa Al-Ghamlas, CEO of Omniya, stated that the Ministry of Education’s continued sponsorship of the competition for the fourth consecutive year reflects the competition’s success, the growth of its database on individual performance, its expanded reach, and the heightened environmental awareness regarding source separation of waste. It has helped foster a generation conscious of the importance of recycling to protect the environment of our beloved country, Kuwait—a positive outcome the Ministry of Education has observed in the results. The participating schools are invited to attend the exhibition accompanying the competition at The Avenues – Grand Plaza from September 17 to 30, 2026, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Al-Ghamlas added that the competition targets the educational sector, which is the foundational building block of society. She commended the participation of additional government entities this year as evidence of the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability. She noted that their presence at The Avenues for two weeks will help attract a broader segment of the community to contribute to the competition by collecting plastic waste and delivering it to participating schools.
She mentioned that Omniya aims to involve a larger number of public schools, from kindergarten through high school, in the fourth edition. Last year, 156 schools collected 264 tons of plastic over just six weeks, which was recycled by relevant authorities, thereby saving 792 cubic meters of landfill space and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 660 tons. This year, the goal is to double these quantities.
Al-Ghamlas expressed her deep gratitude to Minister of Education M. Syed Jalal Al-Tabtabaei for adopting the competition’s sustainability strategy to achieve Kuwait Vision 2035, and for his consistent presence, which has greatly motivated students and had a significant positive impact. She also thanked all participating schools for their substantial efforts in realizing the vision of a sustainable Kuwait, noting that investing in students’ environmental awareness represents a long-term investment in Kuwait’s future. She emphasized that the objective is to make source separation of plastic a daily habit for the new generation, and for students to recognize that their role in protecting the environment begins with their everyday practices.
