Syria: 14 killed in explosion at weapons depot in Idlib countryside

Fourteen people were killed in an explosion at a warehouse storing weapons and war debris in the countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria, according to the governorate’s Health Directorate, with the cause of the blast remaining unclear. The incident marks the second of its kind within nine days.

The Idlib Health Directorate reported that “the casualty toll from the explosion of a temporary storage facility for weapons and war debris near the city of Sarmin reached 14 dead and 11 injured, in a figure that is not yet final.” Meanwhile, the Media and Communications Department of the Ministry of Defense stated that the explosion resulted in “several injuries among ministry employees.”

On September 1, a vehicle carrying ammunition exploded in the city of Binnish, also located in Idlib Governorate, killing five people and injuring others.
