Cambodia's Ambassador to Al-Rai: We look forward to broader investment cooperation with Kuwait

The newly appointed Cambodian Ambassador to Kuwait, Chea Makara, affirmed his country’s and Kuwait’s aspiration to give their decades-old bilateral relations new momentum by expanding cooperation to include trade, investment, food security, tourism, education, and other sectors.

He noted that July 2026 marks the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which were founded on mutual trust and respect and shared aspirations, and have seen continuous development through high-level visits and the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of politics, trade, investment, tourism, and more.

Makara revealed plans to hold the second round of political consultations and the second meeting of the Joint Trade Committee later this year and in early 2027, considering that these meetings will enhance political confidence, explore new opportunities in trade and investment, and establish a more dynamic framework for economic cooperation, thereby transforming existing relations into greater commercial and institutional collaboration.

He regarded food security as a promising area, given the complementarity between Kuwait’s energy resources and Cambodia’s agricultural potential.

In the tourism sector, Makara expressed Cambodia’s hope to attract more Kuwaiti tourists, inviting them to visit the “Kingdom of Wonders,” with its rich historical temples, cultural heritage, diverse nature, as well as green tourism and sustainable travel.

The Ambassador emphasized Cambodia’s support for Kuwait’s developmental ambitions under Kuwait Vision 2035, which focuses on innovation, sustainability, and prosperity, and stated his country’s readiness to contribute to achieving these goals by expanding bilateral cooperation, thereby supporting peace and progress and maintaining strong and enduring relations between the two countries.
