KUNA Center Concludes Its Training Program on "News and Economic Data Editing"

The program, presented by Assistant Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences at the Gulf University for Science and Technology, Dr. Osama Al-Falah, and launched last Sunday, covered several topics related to understanding data and economic indicators, as well as ways to utilize them in preparing and crafting specialized news stories and journalistic coverage.
The program focused on developing participants’ skills in reading key economic indicators, including fiscal and monetary policy, inflation, interest rates, unemployment, gross domestic product (GDP), economic sector performance, and the stock market. It also aimed to familiarize participants with sources of economic data, mechanisms for handling, analyzing, and extracting journalistic angles from them.
Additionally, the program addressed how to transition from understanding economic data to writing professional economic news and covering major economic events, interpreting central bank decisions and data tables, and converting technical reports, such as the general budget, into simplified and accurate journalistic content. This contributes to enhancing the media professional’s ability to present economic information clearly and understandably to the public.
Dr. Al-Falah emphasized, in a statement to KUNA following the conclusion of the course, the importance of specialized training programs in developing the skills of media professionals and improving their readiness to handle specialized topics and issues that require a precise understanding of information and data.
He noted that the role of the media professional today no longer extends merely to conveying information, but has evolved to include understanding, analyzing, and presenting it in a clear, professional manner that preserves content accuracy and enhances its ability to reach the audience. He clarified that understanding economic data represents one of the important aspects in building specialized media coverage.
He added that such programs contribute to strengthening participants’ capabilities by combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, helping them apply acquired skills in their work environment and leverage them to improve performance within their institutions.
He expressed appreciation to KUNA Center for organizing such programs, which provide a platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge among specialists and media professionals, noting that investing in human capital development directly impacts the quality of media content and the outputs of institutions.
