Doha: The world and the region are going through a delicate phase

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, emphasized during his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing that “the world and the Middle East region are going through a delicate phase,” stressing “the importance of dialogue and political solutions.”

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the two sides discussed “the most prominent regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region,” and reaffirmed the necessity of ensuring the security and freedom of international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement quoted Mohammed bin Abdulrahman as reiterating during the meeting “Qatar’s support for all diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving a solution that guarantees freedom of maritime navigation and paves the way for a comprehensive agreement that ensures sustainable peace in the region.”

For his part, Wang Yi said that the tense situation in the Gulf region severely undermines the security of countries in the area and “continues to affect the stability of energy markets, navigation, and supply chains.”

He added that China appreciates the significant efforts Qatar is making in mediation regarding regional issues and the pursuit of peace, and that it is ready to continue communication and coordination with Qatar on international and regional matters.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and Wang Yi also reviewed strategic relations and ways to enhance and develop them across all fields.

On Monday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, during his reception of Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, announced Beijing’s support for Qatar’s mediation efforts, reaffirming his country’s readiness to work with Gulf states and the international community to restore peace and stability in the region.
