Unemployed Man Exploits Cybersecurity Vulnerability to Steal $100,000 Worth of Purchases

In detail, the Ministry of Interior stated in a statement on Tuesday that the General Administration for Combating Public Funds Crimes had been informed by an executive at one of the e-commerce shopping companies about a fraud and deception incident. The perpetrators exploited a vulnerability in the company’s application-specific electronic payment system to unlawfully seize purchases worth the equivalent of $100,000 US dollars (2 million Egyptian pounds).

Upon investigation, the perpetrator was identified as an unemployed individual residing in the jurisdiction of the Mokattam Police Station in Cairo. After formalizing the procedures, he was apprehended. Authorities seized from his possession a quantity of gold bars and jewelry, as well as a large amount of new clothing and a mobile phone, all of which were proceeds from his unlawful seizure of the company’s purchases.
