Kuwaiti-Yemeni relations have never been merely traditional diplomatic ties; rather, they have served as a model for Arab relations based on sincere positions, cooperation, and solidarity, particularly during difficult times and crises.
The State of Kuwait, its leadership, government, and people, have consistently demonstrated their support for Yemen and its people, backing its right to security, stability, sovereignty, and independence. Kuwait has been committed to ensuring that Yemen remains a unified, independent state capable of managing its affairs free from external interference.
Kuwait has an honorable record of supporting Yemen politically, humanitarily, and in terms of development. It also played a significant role in mediation efforts and peacebuilding, hosting the Yemeni peace consultations in 2016, which lasted over 110 days, in a serious attempt to reach a settlement that would end the conflict and preserve Yemen’s security and stability. Kuwaiti support has also extended to development projects and humanitarian aid in various parts of Yemen.
However, the Yemeni tragedy was not solely the result of internal disagreements; Iran’s interference has contributed to complicating the situation and prolonging the conflict by supporting the Houthi militias and supplying them with weapons, in an attempt to undermine the legitimate government.
The Yemeni government has repeatedly called on Iran to cease its interference in Yemen’s internal affairs and to allow Yemenis to determine their country’s future themselves.
As the conflict continues, cross-border security, economic, and social risks have emerged, including the illegal trafficking and smuggling of drugs in the region, along with concerns regarding the production and promotion of narcotic substances such as Captagon, and the use of smuggling networks to destabilize communities.
Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah Al-Zoubi has emphasized that restoring the state’s ability to manage its territory, coasts, and ports will enhance regional security and prevent the exploitation of Yemen’s geography to threaten neighboring countries.
Thus, the international community is now called upon to take a firmer and more responsible stance, supporting the legitimate government, backing Yemen’s unity and sovereignty, preventing external interventions that fuel the conflict, and simultaneously working to alleviate the humanitarian and economic suffering endured by the Yemeni people.
On this occasion, it is essential to extend gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Al-Zoubi for her diplomatic efforts and initiatives to strengthen Yemen’s relations with its Arab brothers and to defend Yemen’s interests and stability. We also extend our thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ali Mansour bin Safa, Yemen’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, for his efforts in enhancing the fraternal relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples. And God is the ultimate source of success.
