von der Leyan criticizes crowds and official support in Serbia for the funeral of Mladic, convicted of war crimes

Von der Leyen wrote on the “X” platform: “The images of Ratko Mladic’s funeral in Belgrade were shocking,” a stance also expressed by European Council President António Costa.

Von der Leyen added, “The display of official support and the attendance of some senior Serbian officials at the funeral is regrettable. It signals a failure to confront a dark chapter in modern European history and contradicts the values underpinning Serbia’s path toward European Union membership.”
