Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that Gulf states cannot rely solely on the United States and other international alliances to ensure their security, but must instead strengthen their own autonomy.
Speaking at the Hay Festival in Abu Dhabi on Monday, he said, “We in the Gulf must recognize that the presence of international forces in the region and the establishment of a strategic alliance with the United States are crucial, but not sufficient on their own.”
He added, “Self-reliance in security is the only way forward. Yes, we need our partners and allies, but we cannot rely on them alone for our security.”
