Success of First Retinal Surgery Opens Door to New Specialized Services in Al-Jahra
The Ministry of Health launched the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit within the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, coinciding with the successful performance of the hospital’s first precise and complex retinal surgery. This marks a significant step toward developing and expanding ophthalmology services in Kuwait.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi successfully performed the first precise retinal surgery at Al-Jahra Hospital, signaling the commencement of retinal and vitreous surgery services at the facility. This initiative is part of broader efforts to bring specialized medical services closer to patients and reduce the need to refer cases to other hospitals.
Dr. Al-Fudairy praised the medical and organizational efforts undertaken by Dr. Hussein Al-Ansari, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, in preparing for the launch of the unit and equipping the department to deliver these highly specialized surgical procedures.
He also commended the support and cooperation provided by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Shamari, Head of the Medical Staff at Al-Jahra Hospital, whose contributions helped overcome obstacles and streamline the necessary procedures to initiate the unit’s operations. This collaboration underscores the importance of integration between medical administration and specialized departments in enhancing the quality of services provided to patients.
He clarified that the launch of the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit represents a qualitative addition to the ophthalmology service system at Al-Jahra Hospital, and constitutes a new step within the Ministry of Health’s plan to develop and expand the provision of precise medical services across its hospitals. This initiative aims to improve access to specialized care while elevating its quality and efficiency.
