Arab Ministerial Conference Begins Its Work Under Tunisia’s Presidency to Discuss Regional Developments
The 166th regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level commenced today, with participation from Arab foreign ministers or their representatives, to discuss developments in the region, foremost among them the reprehensible Iranian aggression against several Arab countries, as well as new developments regarding the Palestinian issue, alongside situations in Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia.
Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Nefzi presided over the session’s proceedings after assuming the rotating presidency from the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Fawzia Zainal.
The Council is discussing regional developments, particularly the reprehensible Iranian aggressions targeting several Arab countries, and new developments in the Palestinian issue amid continued Israeli occupation attacks on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The agenda also covers other Arab issues and areas of cooperation among Arab states in developmental, economic, social, and security fields.
Ministers are also addressing developments in Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and the Union of the Comoros, as well as issues related to safeguarding Arab national security, combating terrorism, and preserving the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states.
Foreign ministers are expected to adopt draft resolutions and recommendations related to the issues on the agenda at the conclusion of the meetings.
On a separate note, Arab foreign ministers held a closed consultative meeting today to coordinate positions on the issues on the agenda of the 166th regular session of the Arab League Council.
The meeting was dedicated to consultation and coordination on key issues and Arab position priorities, foremost among them Iranian escalation and attacks targeting several Arab countries, as well as the continuation of Israeli aggression and violations in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, alongside issues related to Arab national security.
The ministers also discussed several appointments for the positions of Assistant Secretaries-General of the Arab League, based on nominations submitted by a number of member states.
