The Bar Association mourns its former president: Abdullah Al-Ayoub... A legal stature and a national and professional career
The former president of the Kuwait Bar Association, Abdullah Khaled Al-Ayoub, was laid to rest at the Salwa Cemetery, following a career and union activity marked by abundant contributions and achievements. A large crowd of admirers and colleagues attended the funeral, expressing their grief over the loss and recalling his distinguished national and professional career.
During the brutal Iraqi invasion, the deceased transformed from courtroom advocates into heroic fighters in the ranks of the resistance. He shed his lawyer’s robe and dedicated himself to defending Kuwait and its soil. At that time, he was captured and tortured by Iraqi forces. After Kuwait’s liberation, he returned to continue his work in nation-building and defending his country’s causes, contributing to efforts to repatriate prisoners of war through his legal representation and activism.
Al-Ayoub devoted his life to serving the legal profession and defending rights and freedoms in courtrooms. He was among the prominent figures whose names became synonymous with the legal profession and trade unionism, bearing the responsibility of defending the status of lawyers and enhancing their role in society. He worked to develop the legal profession and safeguard rights and duties. Throughout his union activities, he was keen to ensure that the Kuwait Bar Association served as a home for all lawyers, fulfilling its role in defending their interests and elevating the profession—a mission that has remained at the core of the Association’s work since its establishment in 1963.
Al-Ayoub was known for his good relations with colleagues and fellow members of the profession, as well as his sociable personality, which endeared him to everyone. He left behind fond memories and humane gestures among those who knew him, earning him respect and admiration within the legal community.
Khaled Al-Suwayyan, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Bar Association, said: “We remember with loyalty and gratitude the words of the late lawyer Abdullah Khaled Al-Ayoub, former president of the Kuwait Bar Association. His words carried sincere praise and guidance, stemming from his stature as a towering legal and union figure who spent years contributing to the profession, the Association, and his colleagues.”
Al-Suwayyan added: “Al-Ayoub’s words were a source of pride and honor for us. Today, after his passing, they carry a deeper meaning and greater responsibility. These guidelines will remain a source of respect and pride, and a motivation for us to continue our work and carry forward the path established by him and the pioneers and founders who preceded him.”
He continued: “We learned much from him and benefited from his experience and guidance. His words, stances, and contributions will remain present in the memory of the Kuwait Bar Association and in the trajectory of professional and union work.”
