Interior Ministry: Suspect who endangered motorists' lives arrested, transferred to Central Prison, and vehicle impounded

The arrest operation followed the monitoring of a video recording documenting the incident and the conduct of necessary investigations, which led to identifying the suspect, apprehending him, taking legal measures against him, and referring him to the Central Prison. The vehicle used in the incident was also impounded after completing the legal procedures required for its confiscation in favor of the Ministry of Interior.

Article 33 bis stipulates that “whoever commits any of the following acts shall be punished with imprisonment for a term exceeding one year but not exceeding three years, and with a fine not exceeding one thousand dinars but not less than six hundred dinars, or with one of these two penalties.” Among these acts is “driving a vehicle recklessly or negligently, thereby endangering the lives or property of the driver or others.”

The same article further provides that “the court may, on its own initiative or upon request by the Ministry of Interior, order the confiscation of the motor vehicle in favor of the Ministry of Interior if it convicts a defendant of committing any of the acts specified in this article. The authority to dispose of the vehicle shall vest in the relevant department within the Ministry of Interior, without prejudice to the provisions set forth in the aforementioned Penal Code or to the rights of bona fide third parties.”

The General Directorate of Traffic emphasizes that it will not tolerate any actions that threaten the safety of road users or endanger their lives and property.
