CENTCOM: We targeted three Iranian crude oil tankers

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday the destruction of three Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) oil tankers, following Iran’s attack on two U.S. Navy warships.

In a post on the X platform, CENTCOM stated that its forces carried out air strikes against three Iranian crude oil tankers on September 5, after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships conducting patrols in international waters.

CENTCOM added that a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded several unjustified Iranian attacks, and no U.S. personnel were harmed.

It further stated that U.S. forces completely destroyed the empty crude oil tanker Kilo (also known as Knox) in the Gulf of Oman, targeting the vessel in several critical locations to put it out of service after its crew had been ordered to abandon ship.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, said: “Let our message to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps be clear: If you fire on two of our ships, we will impose a much greater economic cost on you by destroying three of your ships. We will not hesitate to defend U.S. forces, and if necessary, we will destroy Iran’s limited and vulnerable oil fleet.”
