A report published by the website Supercar Blondie noted that Huang discussed this incident during a conversation with Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, on the sidelines of the 56th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. He recalled the year 1999, when NVIDIA went public and delivered annual returns ranging between 30% and 37% for its shareholders.

The report quoted Huang as saying his only regret stemmed from selling his company shares too early to buy a nice gift for his parents. He added that his parents also “felt regret” about that decision, referring to their later realization of the immense value those shares would have generated had they been kept.

Despite this expressed regret, Huang’s decision to buy the car for his parents had no tangible negative impact on his financial standing. NVIDIA continued its growth to become one of the leading global companies in artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous vehicles, driving its market capitalization to record levels.

The report noted that such gestures, like gifting a car to parents, are typically happy occasions carrying special meaning for many families. The report further stated that these moments do not always elicit positive reactions, pointing to a previous incident where one spouse showed little enthusiasm upon being surprised with a luxury car as a gift from their son, indicating that Jensen Huang’s regret is not an exception in this context.
