Jerome Keresh continues as Ghana coach

Paris, AFP – Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz will continue his role as head coach of the Ghana national team, despite his initial announcement of stepping down after the team’s exit from the World Cup, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Thursday.

The 73-year-old Portuguese manager had led the Black Stars to the Round of 32 at this summer’s World Cup, before the team was eliminated by Colombia.

Queiroz, who previously managed Iran at the 2022 World Cup, had later stated that he would not extend his contract with the Ghana national team.

However, the Ghana Football Association has now reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach to return for the “next phase of the national team’s program.”

In a statement, the association said: “Following discussions between the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, it has been agreed that Carlos Queiroz will take on a new coaching role, starting from the next international break.”

Ghana will begin their campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month with two matches against Ivory Coast and Gambia.
