Bayern Munich a heavy guest for Schalke... Saturday
Bayern Munich, the league leaders and defending champions, visit Schalke, the team returning to the spotlight, on Saturday in the second round of the German Bundesliga, which opens on Friday with the match between Stuttgart and Cologne.
However, beyond tactical calculations and the pursuit of three points, attention will focus particularly on Bayern’s midfielder Jamal Musiala, who may make his return to official competitions after an absence imposed by health conditions that raised considerable concern during the pre-season preparations.
News of Musiala’s potential return brings a positive aspect for Bayern fans, as the German player has been absent from the first team since suffering two incidents during friendly matches in the preparation period.
Musiala experienced two falls within a short period before it was revealed that he was suffering from treatable episodes of dizziness, prompting the club to handle his situation with the utmost caution. Although his condition has improved, his participation against Schalke has not yet been definitively confirmed.
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, a Belgian, confirmed that Musiala could be among the available options for the match, but he emphasized that the player’s health takes priority and that no additional pressure will be placed on him.
Kompany said after Bayern’s 4-1 victory over Osnabrück (from the second division) to conclude the first round of the German Cup: “I do not want to put any additional pressure on him.”
Bayern Munich possesses a formidable attacking lineup capable of making a difference even in Musiala’s absence, featuring the English striker Harry Kane, French forward Michael Olise, and Colombian winger Luis Díaz. The team, returning to the Bundesliga, knows that facing the defending champions—who struck hard with a dominant 5-1 victory over Stuttgart in the opening round—represents a tough test, but it is also an ideal opportunity to demonstrate their ability to compete with top-tier teams after their return to the top flight, and to try to secure their first point following a 3-0 defeat to Augsburg in their season opener.
