Gold rises as the dollar and bond yields fall

Gold prices rose on Thursday as the US dollar and Treasury yields fell, while investors awaited non-farm payrolls data from the United States that could help shape expectations for the next move by the Federal Reserve.

Spot gold prices climbed 0.5 percent to $4,409.97 per ounce, after hitting their lowest level in nearly a month during the previous session.

The dollar came under pressure as US Treasury yields retreated from multi-year highs. A weaker dollar reduces the cost of the dollar-priced metal for holders of other currencies.

Key US non-farm payrolls data are scheduled for release on Friday.

A report from ADP showed that US private-sector jobs rose modestly in August.
