Kuwait thwarted a heinous Iranian aggression involving missiles and drones, which targeted several sites in the country, including a residential complex, in a serious escalation, a blatant violation of sovereignty, and a direct threat to security and stability.
While the General Staff of the Armed Forces announced that Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks following the heinous Iranian aggression, the General Fire Force reported that its teams managed at dawn to control a fire that broke out in a residential complex in one of the capital’s districts after it was targeted by a hostile drone launched by the heinous Iranian aggression. It confirmed that no human casualties were recorded and that damages were limited to material losses.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the continuation of Iranian attacks constitutes a serious violation of international law and the UN Charter, a blatant breach of Security Council Resolution 2817, and a dangerous escalation that threatens the region’s security and stability and undermines diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and tension reduction. It stressed Kuwait’s full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and interests, and ensure the safety of its people and residents on its territory.
In Geneva, Kuwait described the Iranian attacks as an “explicit and blatant aggression” and a clear violation of international law, testing the credibility of the international system, and called for an “immediate transition” to adopting deterrent measures and actual accountability procedures capable of halting these attacks.
Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hin, speaking on the sidelines of preparations for the launch of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council, stated that Iran’s systematic targeting “does not represent merely a transient breach of regional balances,” but rather constitutes a clear violation of the UN Charter and reflects “an explicit disregard for the international will and a serious breach of the rules of international humanitarian law.”
He warned that betting on containing behavior based on organized aggression would undermine the foundations of the international system, placing direct and primary responsibility on the UN Security Council to maintain international peace and security, and emphasizing the necessity for the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding these attacks.
In parallel, Kuwait condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted Bahrain and Jordan, affirming its full solidarity with the two countries and its support for the measures they are taking to protect their sovereignty, security, and stability.
It also condemned the heinous Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker “Sadr” as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, and the resulting deaths of the tanker’s crew, affirming its full support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia and rejecting any aggression against the security and safety of maritime navigation.
Condemnations from Gulf and Arab states continued over Iran’s culpable attacks on Kuwait and several other Arab countries, amid widespread reaffirmations of solidarity with the targeted nations and their right to safeguard their security and sovereignty, as well as calls to halt escalation, respect international law, and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.
