Inter Milan's Sporting Director Quits in Surprise Move

Rome (AFP) – Inter Milan, the Italian football champions from last season, announced on Wednesday the departure of its veteran sporting director, Piero Ausilio, in a surprising move that ends a long tenure dating back to 2014.

The Lombard club stated in a press release: “Inter Milan and Piero Ausilio have mutually agreed to end their collaboration,” without providing further details on the reasons for his departure.

According to Italian media, Ausilio’s contract, which was set to run until 2027, was not extended for an additional three years as he had hoped. Instead, the club’s American owners, Oaktree Capital, offered him a one-year extension only.

Ausilio joined Inter in 1998, initially overseeing youth teams before progressing through various administrative roles until he was appointed sporting director.

During his time at the club, Inter won 25 titles, including three Serie A championships.

He will be succeeded by Dario Bacchin, who is already part of the club’s staff and will take on the role of Director of Sporting Operations.
