Kuwait: Targeting of Saudi tanker Sidra in Hormuz threatens global navigation and energy security

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the reprehensible Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker “Sidr” as it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the deaths of the tanker’s crew. This incident constitutes a blatant violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and poses a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and to global energy supplies.
The Ministry emphasized the urgent need for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and for adherence to international law rules that guarantee freedom of navigation. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s rejection of any attacks on the security and safety of maritime navigation, and reiterated Kuwait’s full solidarity with and support for its sister state, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as its backing for all measures undertaken by Saudi Arabia to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security, and defend its interests.
